The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several notable changes:

  • Each team includes only eight real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
