Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
