King to Broadcast Intimate Statement on Cancer in Nationwide Broadcast

His Majesty has taped a personal message about his experience with cancer, which will be broadcast as part of this year's Stand Up To Cancer initiative, organised by medical research organisations and Channel 4.

Official sources stated the King would talk about his "healing process" as a individual battling cancer, in a recorded address on Friday at the evening slot.

The recording, filmed within his London residence two weeks ago, will highlight the importance of cancer screening checks to increase the likelihood more people catch the condition at an treatable phase.

This will be a uncommon insight on the health of the King, who has been receiving ongoing care since his condition was announced in early last year. However, it is believed unlikely the King will disclose his type of cancer.

Awareness Central Purpose

The annual charity initiative each year collects money for clinical trials and patient care and encourages people to get screenings to boost the odds of an early diagnosis.

The King's relative openness about his health challenge, and managing the disease, has been aimed to increase understanding and to get more people to get checked - and this will be escalated with this exceptional royal involvement.

To date the King's key philosophy to his cancer has been to keep working, maintaining a hectic timetable despite his regular rounds of care, and he appears not to have wanted to be defined by his condition.

The past twelve months has seen the 77-year-old Monarch, taking several overseas trips, notably to Italy and Canada, and hosting the biggest number of official guests to the UK for decades, featuring the German president in recent days.

Friday's Special Show

This Friday's awareness programme on television, presented by presenters like Davina McCall, Adam Hills and Clare Balding, will encourage people not to be afraid of getting health screenings.

All three have been had experience with cancer - McCall disclosed last month she had undergone surgery for breast cancer, while another presenter was treated for thyroid cancer over a decade ago. Host Hills has previously spoken about his parent, who had one form of cancer and then later blood cancer.

The broadcast will appeal to the estimated millions of people in the UK who Cancer Research UK says are not current with NHS screening schemes, with an website to let people check if they are qualified for tests for breast, bowel and cervical cancer.

In an bid to clarify health tests and illustrate the value of early diagnosis there will be a direct feed from hospital departments at two Cambridge hospitals in Cambridge.

"I want to reduce the stigma out of preventative tests and prove the public that they are not on their own in this," commented one of the hosts.

Understanding National Services

Right now in the UK, there are a number of national health screening services - for major health concerns - available to eligible individuals.

A new lung cancer screening programme is also being gradually implemented for people at high risk of being diagnosed with the illness, focusing on people aged 55-74 years old, who currently smoke or were former smokers.

Male patients may enquire about specific tests, but there is lacking a standardised service in place.

Funding Research

The fundraising campaign, which has generated a significant sum over the past decade, is funding 73 research studies encompassing many patients.

King Charles, in a statement for guests at a gathering for related organisations in earlier this year, had spoken of recognising the "daunting and at times frightening experience" for those diagnosed and their support networks.

But he stated his first-hand encounter of living with cancer had revealed that "periods of great challenge of sickness can be alleviated by the greatest compassion," as he commended those who supported individuals with the illness.

Royal representatives has not revealed what kind of cancer the King has, or what treatment he has been given. The King's cancer was detected following he had received a medical treatment.
