People have come together around the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-led assault on that fateful day in October 2023, as discussions proceeded in Egypt over an end to the war in the Gaza Strip.
The incident saw more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others captured away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the single most fatal day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.
Israel responded by beginning a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are seen as accurate by the UN and other international bodies.
"The aggressive adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," the prime minister added on that day.
He also pledged to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will not pose a risk to Israel".
The Israeli government delayed official remembrance events until October 16th - after the conclusion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but ceremonies still took place throughout the country on that day.
A commemorative event for the relatives of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was held in the coastal city. Put together by the affected families, it was broadcast throughout Israeli broadcast stations.
Some time earlier, a silent tribute was held throughout the country.
At the same time, Israeli and Hamas delegations met in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of mediated discussions to examine the provisions of the agreement.
A high-ranking delegate involved in the negotiations revealed that an night meeting of indirect talks began at evening in Egypt.
The representative said the day's discussions concluded without tangible results, amid conflicting views over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not resume fighting after the first phase of the agreement.
He noted that the discussions are "challenging and have yet to achieve any major advancement," but mentioned that mediators are working hard to reduce the disparities between the two sides.
In Tel Aviv's public square earlier, 29-year-old a woman - whose sibling lived through the incident on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were murdered and numerous more were abducted by Hamas fighters - told: "Nowhere feels like home anymore and until every captive return no one will have peace of mind."
"When we see everybody home returned, we can breathe again. Then we can commence recover," she added.
Near the prime minister's home in the capital, people assembled to express their support for the loved ones of the captives. Israel states forty-eight remain in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be surviving.
Demonstrator one woman explained: "It's necessary do any agreement necessary for the hostages to be released. But we really want guarantees that we will be secure."
Research now consistently show that approximately 70% of the population desire the war to finish in exchange for the liberation of the abducted.
At the location of the music event, mourners assembled to remember the victims.
From that location, the boom of military attacks and artillery could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where local people said the heavy Israeli attacks continued.
In the main city, attacks were noted in the morning of that day in the west side neighborhood, Rimal and locality neighbourhoods and in the eastern district of that sector, as well the camp to the north-west.
"When the evening arrives, the fear appears with it," evacuated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose young son was died by an Israeli aerial attack last year, shared.
"We are fearful of the bombings. All the night we are resting together, clinging, notably my youngest child who puts his face on me all night."
"Continuously we check the reports to see the situation. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the fighting will resume to us."
The healthcare center in Gaza City said it had received the corpses of half dozen people by the midday, including a trio who died in an Israeli attack in the southern district.
A different healthcare center in the south region of the city indicated additional victims had been delivered. An individual was died by Israeli forces while looking for aid to the south region, medical staff reported.
