Iran Claims Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the American officials has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - stated they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas associated with the the regime, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
