Loyal supporters of Ariana Grande are demanding that a man who jumped a barricade and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared clip shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a yellow carpet accompanied by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly guided the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though court documents revealed that he was due to appear on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a performance. His Instagram feed contains clips of him disrupting other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last winter.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Several followers blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented one more comment on Instagram.
Several attendees also faulted guards at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals demanded digital services to block Mr Wen's content.
In videos shared widely, Grande looked startled when she was touched by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Hundreds of fans had assembled in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore mall, including several who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The film, to be released on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a dual version of the well-known Broadway and West End production Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely relationship between two contrasting witches.
The show itself is a adaptation of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and earned a dozen Oscar nominations, securing several for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
