Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer behind some of the most iconic looks worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, most notably the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

This news arrives shortly after he presented his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in menswear at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included several ensembles for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles says farewell to a authentic original whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
